Thornton Oil Switches to Telequip Transact 2+
- Improved Reliability and Customer Service -

Salem, New Hampshire - March 9, 2005 - Telequip Corporation today announced that its Transact T2+ coin dispenser has been adopted by Thornton Oil.

Thornton operates 160 QuickCafe & Market convenience stores and gas stations in Connecticut, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The company is in the process of re-branding and expanding many of its stores to include SubWorks sandwich departments.

In order to improve reliability and the quality of customer service, Tony Harris, Director of Information Systems Projects for Thornton, made the decision to add coin dispensers. Stated Harris, “In order to improve customer service, we wanted our employees to maintain eye contact with the customer as much as possible. We didn’t want them to have their heads down while digging for change.” With the support of the highest levels of Thornton management behind him, Harris added non-Telequip coin dispensers to all of its stores. Within a few months, however, the dispensers presented a host of problems, including high failure rates and difficulties obtaining service replacement parts.”

The Director of Store Systems’ immediate solution was to purchase a large number of spare dispensers and use them to replace those in stores that were experiencing failures. While this action provided a temporary short-term solution, it was not viable for the long term.

After receiving information from Telequip, the Director of Store Systems contacted the company to investigate product compatibility with their equipment. Telequip provided evaluation hardware configured to emulate the existing coin dispenser, allowing Thornton to test compatibility without changing any terminal configuration.

After testing in a lab environment, Thornton installed three Transact2+ dispensers in their newest store. The results of the test clearly demonstrated the superiority and greater durability of the Transact2+.

To date, Thornton has installed roughly 60 Transact2+ dispensers in 25 more stores, with plans for an additional thirty stores this year. “Ultimately, as the old coin dispensers die out, we will replace them with the Telequip product,” said David Caudill, Director of Information Technology. “This will allow for store-wide consistency.”

Caudill cites Telequip’s reliability as one of the key reasons for their satisfaction with the product. “I would have to say that the reliability of the Transact 2+ was one of the primary reasons for making the change to Telequip,” stated Caudill. “That, and the one year warranty. We’ve been extremely happy with the product all around.”
